Pakistan's Punjab government developed a strategy to introduce modern techniques in the agriculture sector to make it profitable. Under the directive of the Punjab Chief Minister, the Agriculture Department has formulated a three-year plan costing Rs 4.76 billion to introduce new techniques in agriculture to enhance yield and improve the economic conditions of farmers in Punjab.

The chairman of Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) Dr.Yousuf Zafar, on May 9, 2017, said that the country's agriculture sector is continuously adopting new agri-biotech technologies and implementing research results to use in farmer's fields. He added, "We all have to perform as per our capacity for the betterment of agriculture sector to make the country self-sufficient in food production." Tunnel Farming Technology will be installed on 3,000 acres of land to help in growing off-season vegetables year-round, which will help in improving the economic conditions of growers in the Province.

The program involves introducing modern and profitable farming, enhancing productivity, lessening productivity expenditures, better utilization of fertilizers and pesticides, and water conservation.
